In this third Wingspan expansion, new bird species are introduced to habitats as we explore the intriguing and magnificent breeds of Asia.

Wingspan Asia is:
– an expansion with new birds of Asia and new bonus cards;
– an expansion to play with up to 6-7 players (Flock mode);
– an independent game to play with 1-2 players (Duet mode).

If you play Duet mode, instead of using the game’s objective tiles, you will use particular objective tiles. Additionally, you will use the Duet board: each time you play a bird card, you will place a Duet token on the Duet board on the space that depicts a match to the bird (nest, food, wing span) as well as the habitat. These markers will be used to achieve the objectives.

If, however, you play with the flock mode, you will have to use two decks of bird cards: those from the base game and those from any expansion (if you play with Oceania cards, use the sides of the appropriate player boards and the nectar dice).
To speed up the game, two players will play at the same time. The players will be divided into two groups, each with its own manger and deck of cards. An indicator will mark which players are playing at the same time.

Wingspan Asia is compatible with Wingspan Oceania.

FAQ

1. How do you get your first fish on the Great Cormorant? The Great Cormorant’s ability reads: “You can move 1 fish from this bird to your cache. Then, roll 2 dice. If there are any fish, cache 1 on this bird from the cache.” So how do you get the first fish on this bird? The first time you use the Cormorant, you ignore the first clause and go straight to rolling 2 dice (that clause doesn’t apply until you have a fish on the bird). After that, you will hopefully have a fish on the bird to consider moving it to your storage; if you don’t have it, keep jumping to rolling 2 dice when it’s activated.
2. Taking a bonus from the duet map, do you get food from the birdfeeder? And the paper? The bonus on the duet map is a “food nut” icon. This means you take an available food item from the birdfeeder, removing the nut as usual. And the card is a normal “draw a card” effect, meaning you can draw from the tray or deck.
3. How many tokens can be placed in the duet map reset box? Each space on the duet map can only have one token from each player, but the “reset box” is different. It can hold an unlimited number of tokens from either player.
4. Is it possible to mix duet map end objectives with normal end objectives? Asia final objectives are for duet mode play only (2 players). But as an unofficial variant, when playing duet mode, you can mix the final objectives of the duet map and the normal ones. This will reduce the importance of duet map tokens, but it is an option.
5. Wingspan Asia introduces more opportunities for birds to cache wild food. Does this mean I can cache nectar? Where is the nectar placed, on the bird or in the “nectar spent” location on the player board? If you’re playing with nectar from the Oceania expansion, yes, you can cache nectar when a bird lets you cache wild food. Since a single nectar cannot be in two places at once, the cached nectar remains on the bird. It should not be placed in the “nectar spent” position on your player board. Cached nectar is not discarded at the end of the round.
6. The Anatomist bonus card has a different value than the one in the base game. It is true? That’s right. Play the card as it is printed. If you have both cards, I recommend using the card with the updated word list.
